In his book on Lacan's Transference Seminar, Fink's back at it again, with a hard-hitting series of micropunches sent straight to the brain (and mucous membranes). It's a romp for sure, and it covers a lot of ground. Fink summarizes Lacan's basic positions on many different kinds of love, from sexual to romantic to familial (and others, too).

Love loves that about another person which is theirs alone while desire fixates on specific traits (objet a) that are shared by many people. Badiou puts it like this: “Lacan also thinks . . . that love reaches out towards the ontological. ‎Quintessentially fascinating, love intrigues and perplexes us, and drives much of what we do in life. As wary as we may be of its illusions and disappointments, many of us fall blindly into its traps and become ensnared time and again.
